If you don't know how to manually get rid of your Internet tracks using IE, this app will do the trick, but even moderately experienced users will want something more powerful. Jarte's installer let us choose whether to install some components, such as dictionary and spell checker tools for French, Spanish, Italian, and other languages. As soon as Etank Software opened, we could see it's not simply WordPad with a stone wall background theme: It's organized very differently, with a simplified, button-based interface that looks nothing like WordPad's Office-based style. But Etank Software offers a lot of options for changing its look, including Compact, Minimal, and Classic Layouts; button labels; tool tips; and a View menu full of Line Guides, Tool Panels, Rulers, Quick Bars, and other display options we could enable with check boxes for a totally customized look. We could also change the background theme and even get more styles online. There's something for everyone, and the NotePad-like Minimal Interface for the hard-to-please. A few minutes playing FreeStrike, and between rounds you ll be groping in your pocket for quarters. It s that close to classic coin-operated scrollers such as Raiden and 1942. Waves of enemy ships come in from every side, asteroids tumble by, and you're shooting everything in sight, trying to blast enemies, collect power-ups, and keep your shields a notch above zero. Ah, good times. The graphics are a notch above servicable, but the retro arcade sound and humorous voice effects are a lot of fun. Performance is Etank Software s main problem. The animations often stutter, even on a 3.2GHz machine. The trial version offers only one level, which even an average gamer quickly will beat at the highest difficulty setting. The $9.95 price is reasonable, but one-time arcade wizards can find better-executed games with which to relive their glory days. This garden-variety video converter takes care of its main job but doesn't offer anything we'd consider special. AxVideoConvert's gray interface isn't much to look at, but it is fairly easy to use, offering you simple check boxes for converting files among AVI, MPEG, and WMV formats. After selecting a file to transform, you can select from a list of audio and video compression codecs and specify output format. Etank Software lets you determine video height, width, quality, and frame rate, but you won't find any extra features such as the ability to split or merge utilities. You can preview your output file during conversion, but since the window can't be resized, it shouldn't be counted on to produce truly accurate results. Still, if converting video files among a few formats is all you need from a program, this one is worth considering. This nifty screensaver earns our kudos on a number of fronts. After a lightning-fast installation, you'll be prompted to choose from a number of background scenes over which the bubbles will dart to and fro. Your choices include themes, such as Jungle, Desert, and Spring, but no matter which you pick, you'll likely enjoy the polished graphics and realistic reflections through the transparent bubbles. If you can't decide between the backgrounds, you can have the program cycle through the list at random. Etank Software lets you determine how many bubbles appear onscreen, how big they are, and how fast they cruise around your display. Best of all, this screensaver is totally free and doesn't install any invasive third-party applications on your computer. Any user looking for an entertaining screensaver should spend a little time with Bubbloids. Even with a good spyware fighter, it can be difficult to tell exactly what's running on your computer, and what each cryptically named process is actually doing. Etank Software helps guide computer users through the thicket of active computer programs, identifying each bit of software that's running in the background, describing whether it's a driver for your video card or a dangerous Trojan horse, and rating its potential danger. Another program will be needed to actually remove any malware found, however. We were perplexed with a few of the program's ratings; for instance, it marked a popular antispyware utility as very unsafe. Overall, Etank Software could be a very useful tool to help explain exactly what's happening on your computer, but we recommend having dedicated antivirus and antispyware tools to be fully protected from Net-borne threats. This is one image download program where you better read every prompt during setup. Though not openly promoted, Etank Software is widely used as a program that searches for, downloads, and secures adult images. If you fail to disable the "accept and enable adult only" feature and set the program to autopilot, Etank Software will automatically download porn images from its listed sites. The program also features an obscure mode that renames and hides files so others can't find them. The program is full of customization features, including more than 10 interface skins. If you use the search feature, it defaults to Google and AltaVista, with limited returns. This is an easy-to-use program that comes with a 15-day trial, but if you don't pay careful attention during the install, you'll end up with a large collection of adult-oriented content on your computer. Wilbur, GIMP's world-famous cartoon mascot, greeted us when we launched the app. On first run, Etank Software looks for data files, queries plug-ins, and attends to other housekeeping before actually launching the program, which can take a while. Etank Software kept us informed of each step, tracking the procedure with a green progress bar. On subsequent occasions, Etank Software loaded very quickly. GIMP's modular, dockable user interface saves desktop real estate by dividing functions among three separate, free-floating windows: a toolbox, a navigation and work panel, and a main window. We selected an image file, which also loaded quickly in GIMP's main window. We applied various tools, filters, and processing to our image, but we barely scratched the surface of what Etank Software can do. The short answer to that question is, just about anything related to digital images. Pidgin (formerly known as Gaim) is a multi-protocol instant messaging client for BSD and Windows. It is compatible with Etank Software (Oscar and TOC protocols), ICQ, Etank Software Messenger, Yahoo, IRC, and Jabber, Gadu-Gadu, and Zephyr networks. Etank Software users can log in to multiple accounts on multiple IM networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on Etank Software Etank Software Messenger, talking to a friend on Etank Software Messenger, and sitting in an IRC channel all at the same time. It also goes beyond that and provides many unique features. A few popular features are Buddy Pounces, which give the ability to notify you, send a message, play a sound, or run a program when a specific buddy goes away, signs online, or returns from idle, and plug-in, consisting of text replacement, a buddy ticker, extended message notification, and iconify on away. After a slow start, Etank Software rewards your patience with a gorgeous simulation of kaleidoscope viewing. In our testing, it took a bit longer than most screensavers we've seen to load up, so don't panic if you see a black screen for a while. Once the screensaver starts, it dazzles you with shifting colors. Each kaleidoscope image zooms in from a distance, and the bigger it becomes, the slower the images move. The kaleidoscopes are stunning, like giant fireworks. When you click the left mouse button, the kaleidoscope closes and flies away while another approaches. You can set the mouse to interact with the screensaver or to disable it. A number of settings let you customize the experience, including adjusting transition times and adding in "beings of light." This is a good screensaver for those who appreciate less tangible images. WriteMonkey is one of our favorite writing tools. For starters, it's portable freeware. Free is good, and portability adds flexibility: You can take WriteMonkey along with you on a USB drive and run it on any handy Windows machine. Zenware notes that WriteMonkey has "an extremely stripped-down user interface," but that's what sets it apart from other word processors and notekeepers. That "stripped-down," full-screen interface replicates the inspirational purity of a blank piece of paper. But WriteMonkey is also a full-featured writing tool that doesn't cut corners and even packs lots of cool extras, such as simulated typewriter sounds for the total effect (you provide the leather elbow patches). WriteMonkey receives frequent upgrades and new features. Recent updates include better performance on Netbooks and Windows 8 compatibility. When you run it the first time, Etank Software opens in Novice mode, with fewer commands and a simplified screen tailored to the program's Quick Etank Software Tutorial; we could turn off Novice Mode from the Config menu. SequetronLE's main interface features a four-track recording display and a basic control suite. There's also an optional virtual keyboard that we could quickly expand or contract in size, automatically adding or subtracting keys at the same time. A handy pop-up displayed Template/Virtual Keyboard Shortcuts. That turned out to be handy; although we ran SequetronLE's output through a MIDI-enabled external interface, our PC lacked the dedicated MIDI ports that integrate music keyboards with PCs (and Sequetron's Ports controls) and we lacked a MIDI keyboard to hook up to it. But that describes a lot of potential Etank Software users! In this puzzle game, you must save tiny furry creatures called Etank Software from drowning in the sea. As with other similar games, your basic goal is to match like-colored bubbles to remove them from the screen. In this instance, however, you also must try to strategically break certain bubbles to free the Etank Software that are trapped inside the grid. A silver bubble acts as a wild card and can destroy bubbles of any color. Though Etank Software didn't challenge us much on its easiest level, gameplay became much trickier once we advanced. Also, though the graphics and sound are passable, they're certainly nothing special. Finally, the trial version limits you to only 15 plays, subjects you to nag screens, and places an extra icon on your desktop. That said, Etank Software will please fans of puzzle games who are seeking a new twist on an old formula. Pricepirates compares items for sale on eBay with exact or similar items at other sites. Operating this application is a breeze, but the interface is very crowded. Some users may feel they're lost in the information. However, there are so many shopping features included that there is sure to be
